Osiris - Osiris - 1981

Quote from Psarros on Progarchives.
"This album has two very big surprises for you...Firstly,of course,it's the country, from where the band hails : Bahrain!!!Yes,in the depths of Arabia...It's unbelievable to imagine how this guys even did know what progressive rock is!...Secondly comes the similarity of this band with CAMEL...Did CAMEL move to Bahrain in the 80's?..."

Indeed this is great symphonic prog-rock from the middle east. If you like Camel or Eloy you definately need to get this.

Originally ripped and posted by thefairfieldparlour.blogspot.com Many thanks to him for making me discover this great album :)

These are some of the things ive seen this band described as online. Personaly Im not sure what to classify it as. Hell, i hadnt even really heard of desert rock and fuzz prog before.
But I like it, that much I can be sure of.

The Barbwires - ...Sounds like trouble - 2001

Swedish surf-rock at its best... Not that ive ever heard any other :P
But this is one of my favourite bands all the same. This is their first and only album so far even tho they have been playing for 12 years. It's mostly instrumental.
Atleast they have a new album announced.

Pete Bardens - Seen one earth - 1987

When Pete left Camel he walked down the path of electronica. Making very relaxing music, mostly instrumental.
This might not apeal to all Camel fans but you should all give it a chance. I for one love it.

Camel - Mirage - 1974

Camels second album is quite possibly my favourite album ever, any band any genre.
That being said you are not guaranteed to like it as much as some of their other albums. Since this is less neutral, nothing mainstream at all about it. So its all up to each person to judge it by themselves. If you like the same stuff I like you'll probably love this tho :)

An amusing but true quote from Luke.J on Progarchives.com, Its about the last track on the album "Lady Fantasy".
"A big point on this song goes to the dreamy lyrics to an unreachable love, which are on the one hand beautiful, on the other irritating with sentences like ''Saw you sitting on a sun beam''."

Camel - Camel - 1973

Camel. Who doesn't love em. What can I say about them other than that they are the best symphonic prog-rock there is... Aswell as the best band to ever exist. ;)
This here be their first slab matey yaharr!

If you liked the Caravan album i uploaded earlier you'll most likely love this. Its pretty much the same style except a bit more focus on instrumentals.

The CD I ripped is a re-release wich includes two bonus tracks. I have never seen them posted online before. So I'm putting them as a separate rar-file so those who have the normal release can get only those. (I would have had to split the album in two anyways since its over 100MB)
One of them is a live preformance by Camel, doing one of Pete Bardens songs that he wrote before he became a member of Camel. 19 minutes of goodness :)

Marco D'Ambrosio - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 1993

A bit of a middle eastern flavour to many of these songs, except done largely with electronical instruments.
This is the soundtrack to the six part direct to video cartoon series based on one of my favourite comicbooks of all time.
The soundtrack is a real winner and really enhanced the viewing experience.

This post is a reply to El-Hobo's post of the soundtrack to the videogame based on the same comicbook. Go check it out, it is also great.

Niacin - Niacin - 1996

Quote from progarchives.com
"NIACIN features John Novello on Hammond B3 organ & keyboards, Billy Sheehan on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums. All are seriously accomplished musicians and play everything from rock, funk, jazz, fusion, progressive and beyond. They are an instrumental group, so the focus is obviously on interesting composition and inspired improvisation. Yet the musical roots of the band’s members go back to the late 60's and early 70's progressive rock giants with whom they are so often (and rightly) compared to, like:YES, GENESIS, EMERSON LAKE & PALMER, KING CRIMSON, TRAFFIC."

One thing I found very interesting about this band is how it uses no guitarr playing. And it didnt bother me anything.
The Bass player was really talented so he more than made up for it.

Kayak - Eyewitness - 1981

Quote from progarchives.com
"This major Dutch Progressive band that started out heavily in the GENESIS mode with their first couple of albums. But they were also developing a short-song style at this point, which ballooned into a full-fledged prog-pop style that (surprise!) actually works well. This band performs an elaborated and velvet music with sweet vocals in the style of MOODY BLUES. Their music is based on well-built and elaborated melodies and efficient instrumental parts. KAYAK was considered a subtle mix of GENESIS with the best SUPERTRAMP."

Neo - Neo - 1980

French progressive rock that reminds me quite a bit of Camel. This album is completely instrumental and there ain't a single song on it that I would hessitate for even a second to recomend to people.

Quote from amazon.com "The band can successively remind of Bo HANSSON, CAMEL (Mel COLLINS's period) or CARAVAN, and sometimes KING CRIMSON ("Islands" days). An absolute rarity, to be rediscovered without delay !"

Benny Goodman - Sing,sing, sing - 1935

Ah swinging bigband music just like in the cartoons we all used to watch as kids. Is there anything better? You be the judge.
One thing is for certain tho. There is no better bigband then Benny Goodman (The King of Swing) and his Orchestra.
Any fan of jazz music MUST be a fan of Benny Goodman, it's a law of nature.

Doug Hubbard - Rygar - 1987

Here is a childhood favourite of mine that i still love two decades after it was made.

Rygar started as a very strightforward arcade platformer... It was not a very good game, and it didnt have any good music. All the home console and computer ports of the game followed the very same formula. But for some reason when it came to releasing it on the Nintendo Entertainment System they decided to instead make a completely new game, only bearing the same name. And that was a very good descision cause the NES game is now a classic while the other versions have faded into obscurity.
Anyways, the soundtrack is partly made using very primitive sounds even by the NES hardwares standard. Some people might think it sounds terrible, but personaly I think it fits really well. Resulting in one of the best soundtracks on the system.

Any fan of videogame soundtracks or old Synth music should atleast give it a try.

Frank Zappa - Hot rats - 1969

Frank Zappa is considdered to be one of the early pioneers of Progressive rock. And Hot Rats is considdered by many as his best album. His music mixes in lots of jazz and psychedelic goodness.

I recomend this album to anyone and everyone... It is that good!
